Center for Natural Lands Management Applies for Renewal of Accreditation
The land trust accreditation program recognizes land conservation organizations that meet national quality standards for protecting important natural places and working lands forever. The Center for Natural Lands Management was first accredited in 2008 and is pleased to announce it is applying for its second renewal of accreditation. A public comment period is now open.
The Land Trust Accreditation Commission, an independent program of the Land Trust Alliance, conducts an extensive review of each applicant’s policies and programs. The Center for Natural Lands Management is dedicated to the perpetual protection and stewardship of imperiled species and rare ecosystems. Because our vision is perpetual, our activities are carried out exercising prudence and high standards of care informed by conservation science; best practices of financial planning, accounting, financial investment and business management; and our close to 30 years experience. The accreditation process has been an excellent and disciplined way to examine in detail our operational and stewardship practices and to assure that they are as sustainable and robust as possible. Having an expert external panel review and test these practices and their underlying assumptions has been not only revealing and motivating, but ultimately affirming.
The Commission invites public input and accepts signed, written comments on pending applications. Comments must relate to how the Center for Natural Lands Management complies with national quality standards. These standards address the ethical and technical operation of a land trust. For the full list of standards see http://www.landtrustaccreditation.org/help-and-resources/indicator-practices.
